2011 Aloha Festival

AAAALLLLLLLLOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOHHAA!!!

This year was the first year that I performed in the Aloha Fest. Talk about HARD WORK and PRACTICE PRACTICE PRACTICE!!! Last year I was VERY much pregnant with my youngest child so I couldn't participate in the event. But this year would be the year... The first number that I danced in was from the beautiful island of TONGA!

I was pretty proud of myself for coming up with an outfit that was easy to put on but still pretty. VIOLA!!! Success... My pour fingers paid the price though because glue guns can be deadly especially with someone who is dubbed clumsy on a regular basis. Lol... I definitely had fun designing it but boy oh boy it wasn't easy. But in the end I'm glad that it all turned out beautifully.

This would be the 2nd time that I would be dancing a tau'olunga ever. I must admit that this number brought a lot of energy to the stage and Tonga is one of the hardest islands to dance for me. The technique and gracefulness is so hard to capture but I am  practicing and I am determined to learn the proper steps and hand movements. Malie by Kontiki...

The next number I performed was our Maori. My sister, Taina and I had so much fun practicing this number with the other two sisters. Our kumu, Nalani Francisco and her sister Awa Dolfo.

I love our outfits!!! The colors & especially the cost. Lets just say it wasn't as expensive as it looks ;) I can't tell you my secret cause if I did it wouldn't be much of a secret now would it. The end of this number was hilarious. One of my sister's poi balls mysteriously flew away hahaha... So she only finished with one poi ball. Lol...

And then comes the finale!!! Green Rose Hula! I love doing this dance. It's upbeat, fun and definitely a workout lol... Our kumu emphasizes on technique and being in-sync. All that work definitely paid off in the end and the show was a success!!! I love my Halau!!! This was definitely an experience to remember.
